The heartlands should be clean and green too, not just Orchard or Sentosa

The heartlands should be clean and green too, not just Orchard or Sentosa
This waterway next to Kembangan MRT Station is clogged with rubbish. STOMPer Lordlad feels that these heartland areas deserve to be as well-maintained as tourist areas too.

Here's what the concerned STOMPer had to say:

"I've always heard my non-Singaporean friends say that 'Singapore is such a clean city.'

"But look at the condition of this drain that's just beside Kembangan MRT Station.

"These pictures were taken this evening when I was going back home from work.

"I suggest the Ministry of Environment or the relevant authorities try to clean up those places that true blue Singaporeans really stay in rather than keep spending money beautifying Orchard Road, Sentosa and such places."

This cactus plant at Kembangan is a danger to passersby

This cactus plant at Kembangan is a danger to passersby
STOMPer Good Samaritan is worried for passersby as they have to be wary of the cactus plant along Jalan Senyum near Kembangan MRT.

In an email to STOMP, the STOMPer wrote:

"These two pictures were taken near a corner private house at Jalan Senyum.

"The owner has planted a row of cactus (with very sharp thorns) outside his fence on land which does not belong to him.

"There is a beaten track between the house and the MRT track and many residents of the housing estate use this as a short cut to get to the Kembangan MRT station.

"If you are in a hurry to catch a train in the morning and you walk past this house you must be careful of the cactus plant which grows to a height of about 2 m.

"Why should the owner of this private house be allowed to plant a dangerous plant outside his land and cause inconvenience to passersby?"

Overgrown tree blocks pavement, inconveniencing pedestrians

Overgrown tree blocks pavement, inconveniencing pedestrians
This overgrown tree blocks the pavement near Kembangan MRT Station, leaving only a narrow space for pedestrians to walk through.

STOMPer Pedestrian says:

"This picture was taken outside a private house which is located next to the pavement near Kembangan MRT Station.

"There are many trees and bushes outside this house.

"In mid Jan 2009, there was a trimming done. However, the tree in the centre of this picture was not trimmed.

"Pedestrians are obstructed by the tree when walking on the pavement.

"It is not too difficult for adults to avoid the tree, but for young children and people with prams, it is very difficult to walk past it.

"I would like to know whether this tree can be trimmed for the safety and convenience of the pedestrians?

"Should this be done by the relevant authorities or the house owner?"
